What is Pet Portraits?

Pet Portraits is a fundraising event which is hosted by and benefits Anti-Cruelty. Anyone can make a donation to this fundraiser and receive a one-of-a-kind drawing of their furry friend created by one of our Volunteer Artists. Here’s the catch—artists are chosen at random! The portrait might be painted, digitally drawn, colored with crayons, professional, or more abstract. But one thing is for sure, it will be unique!

How does it work?

Donors will be directed to our Pet Portrait fundraiser website; once the donation is received, the donor will get an automatic email asking for them to submit a picture of their pet(s). When the photo is received, an Anti-Cruelty staff member will assign the project to one of the volunteer artists to complete.

The art should be completed and submitted back to AC within 7–10 days from the time assigned. If you can create multiple pieces in a week’s time, please let us know so we can provide more artwork to donors in a timely manner!

Artists are asked to create art from Oct 30–Dec 8 if possible!

Is there a certain skill level to participate?

Nope! Give it your best effort. We know everyone’s skill level is different, and beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Part of the charm of this fundraiser is the surprise factor; the donor could receive a realistic portrait or one that might be considered a little abstract.

What can I use to make the art?

Art should be created on either physical paper or a digital format that is the standard size 8.5 x 11” (paper should be at least 6 x 9” and may not exceed 9 x 12”) . This will make it easier for us to mail the art to the donor.

You can create in any medium that you like. Pencils, pens, crayons, markers, chalk, paint, or a digital illustration program like Photoshop, Procreate, Krita, Autodesk SketchBook, etc.

What do I do when I am done creating the art?

When you finish the portrait, we ask that you take a digital photo and email it back to Erin Daly at artists@anticruelty.org so we can share it with the donor immediately.

We will also send the physical version of the art to the donor.

If the art is digitally created, please submit the file in one of the following formats: JPEG, PNG, or PDF. Our staff will make a print of the art to send to the donor.

If the art is physical (created on paper), artists can either mail or drop off at the River North location within 7 days of completion:

  • Anti-Cruelty
  • Attn: Erin Daly
  • 157 W. Grand Ave.
  • Chicago, IL 60654

Can my friend(s) also be a volunteer artist?

Yes! If you know someone who wants to be part of the volunteer artist team, share this page with them and have them complete the registration form.
