Background
In 2022, Anti-Cruelty participated in national efforts in partnership with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) to rescue beagles from Envigo, a breeding and research facility in Virginia that was recently found guilty of dozens of federal regulation violations, resulting in dogs being ill, injured, underfed, and, in the worst cases, dead.
Our dedicated staff members made the nearly 800-mile trip to Virginia to safely transport these dogs to our shelter. We were all hands-on deck, working diligently behind the scenes to prepare for their arrival by securing fosters, adopters, supplies, and funds to ensure that each beagle we took into our shelter received the best possible care and outcome.
What can you do to help?
Donate. Under Anti-Cruelty's care, the beagles received innovative medical and behavioral treatment to address their specific needs; foster care as a transformative experience for optimal adoption outcomes; and other immersive environmental and social engagements to prepare them for life in a loving home with families. Supporting Anti-Cruelty with a donation will ensure even more dogs in the future receive the best possible care so we can continue to provide an open door to the thousands of other community animals who need our support.
Shop. Each beagle who entered our care was sent home with a customized care kit to ensure their foster caretaker has everything they need to help with their rehabilitation and well-being.
Adopt. All of the Envigo beagles were placed directly into an assigned foster home upon arrival due to the exceptional level of care they will require.
