Reading Buddy Program

The Anti-Cruelty Society’s new Reading Buddy program invites animal lovers to put their compassion to action. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to sit with one of our designated Reading Buddy pets and read to them from their favorite book. Take part in this drop-in volunteer project and you’ll be keeping adoptable pets company while helping them to relax in this busy environment. Supporters looking to complete community service hours are encouraged to participate. Participants can earn a maximum of 10 hours, provided they have approval from their Community Service coordinator.

People interested in reading to the animals must watch the video below before taking part. You can bring your own book or borrow one of ours. Per shelter policy, minors must be accompanied by an adult guardian while visiting animals. We ask you to keep your reading session to about 15 minutes per animal.
