Any available adult dog who is over 40 pounds and has been on the adoption floor for over a week can also go to foster. Just double-check they're located at our River North Location. Please reach out to the foster team for more information.

Smores and Kabob are sweet little girls who need a foster home to help them gain weight. They arrived at the shelter extremely emaciated and need lots of extra love and care before continuing their adoption journey.

Reason for Foster: Medical
Length of Stay: Through heartworm treatment (5-8 months)

Phoebe is a sweet, social girl who needs a foster home to support her through heartworm treatment. She is heartworm-positive and showing clinical signs of heart damage, so she will need a dedicated foster to help her safely through the process.
What’s needed from her foster:
- Monitor for signs of complications (coughing, difficulty breathing)
- Reliably administer oral medications
- Transport her to the shelter for treatment injections
- Maintain strict exercise restriction to prevent complications
Treatment timeline:
- Currently on oral medication through end of September
- First heartworm injection: October 28th
- Second & third injections: 30 and 31 days later (consecutive days)
- Phoebe will likely stay at the shelter the day of her first injection and overnight for the second and third, so staff can closely monitor her
If all goes smoothly, Phoebe can return to foster care in between treatments and will remain there until she’s ready for a special care adoption (around 2 months after her last injection).
Phoebe is a gentle, affectionate dog who deserves comfort and care while she goes through this journey. Could you help her through it?

Rock, Patrick, and Star have been indirectly exposed to panleukopenia and urgently need to leave the shelter to stay safe and reduce stress. We're seeking a foster home where they can be monitored for any signs of illness in a calm, clean environment.
Time is critical — even a short-term stay could make all the difference.
They should be the only cats in the house.

Clawd and Clawdeen are cute, curious, and playful kittens who need a foster home to gain weight and recover from a URI. Clawd (black and white) is getting medication for this. They have also been indirectly exposed to Panleukopenia and must be monitored for vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and lethargy.

Sweets and her 6 kittens need a foster home to grow up in to prepare for surgery and adoption. The smallest kitten will need to be weighed daily and have supplemental feedings. Kittens can be returned in batches when they are big enough. They are currently on medication for loose stool. Momma is nice and takes care of her little ones!

Muffin and her 6 babies need a foster home to stay in while the babies grow and prepare for adoption. Muffin appears to be taking good care of her kittens, but 2 of them are a bit small and they need to be weighed daily and supplement fed.
