Helping Pets with Community Outreach

If you’re looking for a way to get involved outside of the shelter or are currently unable to make a one-year commitment to one of our on-site programs, consider taking part in one of our off-site volunteer programs. From helping with community outreach as a special events or street team volunteer to making crafts and enrichment items for the animals, there are many ways for you to get involved.

Special Events

If you’re interested in representing Anti-Cruelty at our special events, consider training to be a Special Events Ambassador. In this role, people from the community act as ambassadors for our organization by attending mixers, fundraisers, donation drives, outreach parties, and other social meetups on our behalf.

Special Event Ambassador trainings are done on a one-on-one basis. If you’re interested in scheduling a training session, contact our Special Events team at events@anticruelty.org.

Pet Visitation

If you’re looking for a way to volunteer alongside your dog – Pet Visitation is your ticket! In this unique program volunteers connect with our Community Programs team to coordinate visits throughout Chicago to share the love of their pet with others. By bringing your dog along to a local school, hospital, or rehab center, you can assist our Community Programs team in educating and engaging the community in a truly impactful way.

Participants must be able to provide their own transportation and have a dog in their care with a Canine Good Citizen Certification. The majority of Pet Visitation programming takes place on weekdays during office hours – so candidates who are available Mondays – Fridays between 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. are highly encouraged to apply.

All Pet Visitation volunteers complete our Virtual Volunteer Orientation prior to being scheduled for their first visit.
