Create a Community of Caring!

Kids who careAre your kids looking for some way to connect with our animals? We have the perfect solution! And yeah, some of these are good options for adults too!

Reading Buddies is a new program that invites animal-lovers to put their compassion into action. Visitors (of all ages) are encouraged to sit with one of our designated Ready Buddy pets and read to them from their favorite book. Take part in this drop-in volunteer project and you’ll be keeping adoptable pets company while helping them to relax. Click here for more information.

Kids Who Care offers families an opportunity to engage in our work while providing valuable education to kids and adults alike. During an onsite Kids Who Care event, families learn more about proper animal care, make a toy for adoptable dog, read a book to a resident cat, prepare snacks for one of our small mammals, and decorate an adoption poster for an available pet. This program is open to children ages 2-10 and is a great way to impact a shelter animal’s life. This event takes place the first Saturday of every month from 10-11:30 a.m. and registration is $20 per child. Click here to register.

Youth Who Care is an animal advocacy and volunteer program for youth ages 10-13 years old. This exciting opportunity is hosted at the Society and participants learn about a variety of topics such as animal behavior, training, care, and other animal welfare issues. Students are eligible to earn service learning hours during this program. Click here for more information.
